Hi everyone,

I have a nice Emerson 21645 fan.  The 2nd speed does not work.  I have another switch from a 27645 or also a 29645.  I have not tried to see if they are physically the same, but I was wondering if anyone can tell me the those switches are interchangable?

If they are not interchangeable, does anyone rewind or repair these switches?

Thank you,

John :D

Hey John,

It should not be a problem.  I would start with the 27645.  Keep in mind that not all the 21XXX's connected the same way to the speed control

But I am having a hard time understanding why it would work in position 1, but not in position 2, as position 1 would require continuity through the 2nd coil.  If you can make it to PigPickin in May, bring the speed control in question and we will check it out.  I'll even let you rewind a coil for it.

Will,

No, I have not taken the switch out to check it yet.

Tom,

So, you are saying if position one works, then position 2 should work also?  If that is so, maybe there is just a connection problem in the contact arm?   Like I said I have not opened up the switch to check it out yet.

Thank you, Tom

That's what I'm saying.  I've had those knife switches so bad (sometimes a broken base), that I had to push up on them to make contact.  But without having it in hand, I can only guess and try to be logical.
