I have been an appliance tech for 37 yrs. Did you know if you remove the ground plug from a microvave then plug it in up side down it becomes a little refrigerator! :P errr. Uhhh... thats because the electricity flows backwards through it... But you all already kno that right?

Michael,

What a fantastic group of pictures! And one of them even had a shot of my other obsession--milkshake mixers. What a great way to start my day. Many thanks for posting.

Hi guys. Yes, I love old photos too and it's fun using google image search to find them. Sometimes much of the results are unrelated to what I type in the search box. Glad you've enjoyed them.

Alamo Iron Works, Corpus Christie TX. Wish I had a wayback machine too, George. And especially if indoors and the picture has a window of a street view, I'd love to be able to just walk outside and see the sights way back when.

Here's your Wayback Machine for those who want one. This is actually a great site that some may be able to use. I did use it recently to find a post that had been removed here.

Shorpy is a poor excuse for what your tax dollars support: The Library of Congress

Tom, you have posted your thoughts on Shorpy before. Shorpy does some fine tuning of the photos they post daily. I, for one, appreciate what they do and it gives me a daily dose of old photos that I would not otherwise see. If my tax dollars are going to Shorpy that's fine with me, I get a lot more of of their photos than I do from the yellow dotted walk pads on handicapped ramps.

I have nothing against commercial sites such as Shorpy that utilize the free photos from the LOC.  I do have a problem with them watermarking public owned photos with their logo.

I promote the best sites, not the pablum ones.

I had a ton of 'em.  Mostly as links with the titles.  I thought I had everything backed up, but those files were lost in a HD crash.  I have a quarter ton left as huge tiffs and jpegs.  I'm working on fans this weekend, but I'll post them again later.  The old threads fell out of the cloud back when we had less storage space.

The problem with the LOC entries is they are not tagged worth a darn and you have to look at a LOT of photos to find the fans.

Same thing with the google image search. But when you find something good it's worthwhile. :D
