The 2017 Monty Young Raffle Fan is a 1902 GE Pancake Restored in an original upgraded finish Wine Red and Brass.  This fan was from the collection of the late Peter Biniaz.  Peter was a long time collector and resided in Oceanside California with his loving wife Joni.  Peter passed on March 30 2015 (on his 80th birthday) after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.  Unfortunately I never had the opportunity to meet Peter but what I knew about him was learned from reading a collector profile that was written about he and Joni in an old AFCA Newsletter.  What I will always remember was Peters color choices for his restorations.  He had chosen very bold and out of the box colors to use on rare early cast iron and brass fans.  So with this restoration in his memory, I found it only fitting to use a bold yet factory correct Wine Red and Polished Brass.

The Restoration.  In the spirit of what the AFCA is all about, the restoration work has been performed by the best names in the business who donated their talents to pull off this beautiful fan.

The brass that shines so beautifully was done by Nick Loos.  Nicks talent to makes brass shine is amazing and certainly shows in this fan.  Nick is also an expert at part manufacture and duplication and made this beautiful 10 wire brass guard.  Nick lacquered all the brass as well so it will shine for many years.

A fan this nice needs to run perfectly and be reliable for years to come so Rick Huckabee rewound the stator for a fresh kick to the 115 year old motor.

With the new motor we now needed to update the tired old bearing and rotor shaft.  Darry Hudson machined a new bearing and also replaced the tired shaft and re centered it on the rotor so it runs true inside the field of the stator.

I think what turned out to be the best attribute to the fan was the Wine Red finish which was applied by master restorer Carlton Ward.  Carlton is a longtime AFCA member and studied under the direction of Monty Young which makes his donation to the fan even more important.  The finish that Carlton applied to this fan is a testament to the quality of work that comes with years of experience.

Monty Young  Monty Young was a longtime member of the AFCA.  Monty would donate a restored fan every year to the club to be raffled off with the proceeds going to the AFCA.  In the early years of the AFCA, finances were difficult but through Montys contributions the club was able to grow into what it is today.

Oh, man, that's the pancake I want. Drool.

How much for ALL the tickets, may I ask?

Cheers,
Bill

Chad who is the PayPal payment made payable to?  You, Antique Fan Parts, or AFCA?

Absolutely beautiful fan that any member would be proud to own. It shows how special this organization is that people will donate that kind of product, time, and effort for the good of the afca. Hats off to everyone that had a part in this fan. I hope it brings in a ton of money. I look forward to seeing it in person.   Steve

Rick,
When an order is placed for tickets through the website, the paypal payment comes to me.  ALL ORDERS are printed off and ALL FUNDS are being paid to Dick Boswell in the form of a check for the full amount.  I'm paying the paypal and website fees associated with these sales.  I'm open to any member who cares to volunteer to sell tickets.  I didn't think it was going to be me this year but the fan was ready and I was ready to start selling tickets and no one was waiting in the wings to take the bull by the horns.
Paypal has never been accepted in the past for raffle tickets and we have had folks inquire about taking Paypal for these tickets.  This process was passed by our great president as he was excited to see how much more revenue we could get by opening up this avenue.  Those who inquired about Paypal directly to me last year have yet to purchase but the largest majority of tickets have been processed through PayPal so far.
Thanks
Chad

I have always thought it would be cool to attempt to collect all the raffle fans but knowing where they are all now that is the mystery.
