My grandmother bought this fan new, probably in the '30s.  It has been in the family ever since.  I have used this fan every summer in lieu of central air, at least since 1984.  Yesterday I turned the fan on and it stopped working. Removing the bottom plate, it looks like the sardine can condenser is bad.  I typed the part number into Bing and this website came up.  I am gratified there are so many people who are members.  Perhaps they still make new parts for this fan.  The number is:  41-0-00A3/4   1.75 MFD  -  220 VAC
Thanks for your assistance.  The fan is face down on the workbench at the moment, no photo available.

Regards, Joe

[size=you need one of these-- a 1.5 mfd capacitor, 450 volt rating. I'm not sure where you can find a replacement sardine can, most people but these molded plastic units & are very happy with them. A member who has way more knowledge than I posted this  spec for a 12" fan.  I do not know if a local appliance repair shop would have that small of capacitors--    ]
[size=Good luck Lawrence]

Lawrence is correct. I get mine from Amazon, EBay, as well as a local appliance/motor shop. The plastic box types work fine.
