Recent purchase. On the fence in regards to my my plans for it.

Will need to form a back ring from square stock and cannot find a seam to determine how it joins. Anyone know if just silver soldered or turned down on one end to fit an adjoining hole. The stencil cage was commonly used and should be identical. I am just looking for someone with past experience in forming square stock rings to explain best way for me to join the ends.

Second there is a skin toned rubber foot. Is this original or just some random foot attached?

Third the communicator cover is aged brass with either old loose black paint or lots of dirt. Anyone know if perhaps painted black?

Wow, a DC tank; love those.
The light color foot is not original.  The rear cage ring should be able to be very satisfactorily repaired, maybe with some silver solder where needed.  The brass commutator cover on both of my DC tanks is brass, not painted.  And then I remembered about my rough 16" DC tank where there is some of what looks like black paint on parts of the brass cover so I can't say for sure how they were made.   But all of the other brass parts were left brass weren't they?
