I have searched for this answer, so it's possible that I missed it.  I just got an Emerson 79648-AT from 1948 and I am having a hard time getting the gear box and/or the motor housing off so I can fix the wiring.  Thanks to the great info on this forum, I was able to get the blades off, and I'm now at this point with things (photo attached) .
Any help along the way, or link to something I may have missed here would be appreciated.  I'm super happy to have found this forum - ever since my grandmother gave me her incredibly treacherous oscillating fan, with no finger guard at all (!) I have been hooked on the elegance of these fans.  I'm excited about this "new" Emerson, and can't wait to get it running again.

Thank you in advance, and thanks for a great community here.

Couple taps on that gearbox to free it up and it should slip off. Odd shaped nut on the front of the rotor twists off lefty and the rotor slides out. Stator can be tapped out as is.

Remove the 4 studs before tapping the stator coil out. Google 'double nut stud removal"

I'd put it in the sun. The heat will soften up the old grease .
