Presenting my first fan for 2019. I call it the Traversing Yoke dual axis orbiting eight inch six wing fan, but that won't fit on a name plate. I'm at a loss as to what to call it so I'm asking for help.  Things that come to mind are "planets" "spheres"  "atoms" and such, but nothing so far has seem to capture the spirit of this one.

Well, so here it is.

Let me know if you think of something, OK? It's not done until it gets a name. One person suggested "Infinity" referring to the sideways "8" infinity sign. Not sure about that....

Also, I've never seen a fan with this kind of motion. If you've seen one, I'd love to hear about it.

Cheers,
Bill

That is really neat. Definitely a really intricate action it has.

So, how in the heck did they claim copyright on a video of a fan you built yourself?

Jackie thinks it might be called The "Golden Axis Orbitor" or "Axis Orbitor"  she also wants to know if she
can win it?  (I think it's partially an excuse to come pick it up!)

It really looks great Bill.  You did a very professional job on it!
How many hours you think you have tied up in it?
Your Maui visitor friends, John & Jackie.

It looks like a little trojan orbital cage and blade. The motor is obviously a ball motor.

You sure your last name isn't Eck, Lundell, Peterson, or Olson?  :D

Thanks everyone. I got a good laugh at some of the comments this morning. Good start for the day.

This one wasn't my usual plan. I usually work from a sketch and the completed fan looks very much like that. This one evolved as I built it. I stumbled upon the mechanism to make it describe the figure eight by just experimenting. Originally it was going to be an orbiter with gimbals to control the motion by I ditched that when I found this configuration. Also I had intended to enclose the motor and blade within the cage (looking very "atomic") but that got ditched early on.

But I couldn't be happier with how it came out, though. I should have added that the front switch is the on/off switch with variable speed control and the side switch turns on and off the orbit motion.

I've got about two pounds of brass in the back end of the ball to help counterbalance the heavy motor, blade and cage. Still the little motor in the base is struggling as it is an old used one I had laying around. I have more on order and a fresh motor will go in.

I was at this project for three weeks with a couple of interruptions due to a lady friend on island taking up some of my time.

Cheers,
Bill

How about Telstar?

Telstar

I got a laugh at the Sputnik suggestion but I'm not a big fan of Russia at the moment.

There also was a satellite named "Echo"

I remember your Saturn fan. You mentioned for this suggestions that came to you pertain to planets, cosmos, atoms so 2nd suggestion would be Aquarius.

Tyoda - It’s either an offbeat homage to the Japanese car brand or everyone’s favorite Dagobah resident Jedi master.
Either way - Traversing Yoke, Orbiting Dual Axis

Hey, I got two Tyoda's already! That makes three, now.
A RAV4 and and Camry and now this fan....

Hey, Avalon is a nice name. It's got nothin' to do with nothin' but it sounds cool. Sounds a little hillbilly, doesn't it? Tyoda Avalon....

Cheers,
Bill
