The japan on the motor and oscillator is pretty excellent. Only a few chips on the front face that the blade hides anyway

The bakelite cord bushings are even still in good condition. Those are almost always chewed up or gone. It just needs the levers for the oscillator and it will be back to original

I have the pie crust base soaking in white vinegar right now. The paint on the base is not going to be as nice as the motor.

Now I have the motor fairly well serviced. I pulled the rotor and spray cleaned the centrifugal switch with QD electric cleaner. I also cleaned the bearing surfaces and gave it some zoom spout and a dab of red wolf's head grease for the gears. Runs like an emerson

Nice, very difficult blade to find, most are gone and replaced with a later blade.

I got the base cleaned up. It's just missing a little paint near the bottom.  :D

That cleaned up well. Did you spray a clear of some kind on the bare metal?

I had the blade off today while cleaning the paint. I had not noticed the pat date stamped on it before

Nice fan Charles. I had a 11648 but I sold it to make another fan purchase. I will get another one eventually. I just love the big 16" cast and brass blade.

Keep an eye on this thread as I will be getting the much needed lower control arm soon. When I get it put on the fan a new video will be posted of it oscillating as it is supposed to do.This was an easy fan to work on and it runs great. Getting all of the parts has taken a bit longer than I originally expected.
I may post it on the bst forum after it is finished.... too many fans, not enough space and money  :hammer:

Very nice work Charles.  Can you tell us more about the use of the white vinegar?

Most who restore old cast iron cookware use a 50-50 mix of white vinegar and water and leave the piece in the solution for not more than a half hour at a time then check.  Vinegar can, in time, eat the iron away.   Because of that and because I use a wire wheel following a lye bath, I do not use vinegar.

I will add that using vinegar to clean iron cookware of rust is more critical than cleaning rust from a fan that will get a coat of paint to cover up any small pitting and to smooth the cast iron.  That cannot happen on iron cookware that shows its surface without any protective or coverup coating.

At long last, the emerson is complete. I'm not 100% sure if I mounted the lower link correctly or not. It does seem to work well enough as it is but it's not hard to turn it around either.
