I don’t know anything about this.  Looks like it was installed in a truck as it’s big and bulky.  Motor pictured is new.  Neat Art Deco look.  I saw it in a mall.

That looks like a heater to me, uses engine coolant from truck or bus it was installed in.

Like Mark said, it’s an aftermarket heater. Most pre 50s vehicles did not come standard with a heater, so there were lots of aftermarket ones. Even Chevrolet offered an aftermarket heater.
