The Globe fan motor marketed 1895-96 for battery and continuous circuit. J. P. Williams & Co. was the Lancaster, PA. manufacturer using a DC motor patent assigned to him by Wallace Freeman of Rhode Island. This was the origin of what was eventually to become the Fidelity Electric Co.![]() ![]() Attached Image (viewed 226 times): Last edited on Thu Nov 28th, 2019 06:36 am by Russ Huber |

"Carbon brushes are used on all these machines, excepting battery motors, on which a woven wire brush is employed." A 6 wing blade could be found on 12" model Globe battery fans. Attached Image (viewed 184 times): Last edited on Thu Nov 28th, 2019 06:16 am by Russ Huber |

Much appreciated Steve Rockwell city directory for Lancaster 96. Notice George C. Towle Mfg. Co. is listed under the "Electrical Machinery" listing as early as 96. This is 2 years prior to Towle receiving the charter to Manufacture Paragon Fan & Motors as well as incorporating in Lancaster in 98. Below is the 96 directory. Notice no mention of the J. P. Williams & Co. or the Globe fan motor under the fan motor heading. Notice the mention of the Marietta Mfg. Co. under fan motors. This is because Marietta prominent purchased D. H. Kulp's Crecent fan motor business in 95 and eventually moved it to Marietta, PA. it appears late 96. Attached Image (viewed 165 times): Last edited on Fri Nov 29th, 2019 05:44 am by Russ Huber |

Two incorporations involving the Paragon fan and motor Lancaster, PA. manufacture and NY office sales in the same year of 98. Help me try to find The Paragon Fan & Motor Co. name mentioned in electrical trade since the fans introduction to the market in 97. Try to find the Paragon Fan & Motor Co. mentioned in 97-98. ![]() J. P. Williams it appears took his 95 assigned motor patent to Lancaster, PA. for manufacture, but kept the electrical trade marketing of the Globe and Paragon fan & motors 95-98 under his NY office address. Thanks to Steve Rockwell being in touch we have George C. Towle doing "electrical machinery" related manufacture in Lancaster as early as 1896 shown in directory. Now to try and pin him down for 95 in the Lancaster directory. It is my distinct impression Williams took his assigned DC motor patent to Towle for manufacture. This is not validated at this point however. There is no mention of the Globe(95-96) and Paragon(97-98) fan & motor manufacture in Lancaster, PA. 95-98. The first mention of the Paragon Fan & Motor Co. is 99 when it was moved to NY under new ownership under the GI roof to the best of my knowledge. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 00 Attached Image (viewed 141 times): Last edited on Sat Nov 30th, 2019 05:55 am by Russ Huber |

In 1899 it appears the Lancaster prominent Stauffer family took over management of the George C. Towle Mfg. Co. John Stauffer was also managing the American Blower & Forge Co. in 99. Thanks again to Steve Rockwell for these 99 directory clips.![]() Attached Image (viewed 142 times): Last edited on Fri Nov 29th, 2019 04:37 pm by Russ Huber |

The Paragon Duplex offered in 98 when George Towle was contracted exclusively for 98 to manufacture Paragon fan & Motors it appears became George C. Towle Mfg. Co. product exclusively starting in 99, and was still being manufactured when the Towle name was changed to Fidelity and the first Fidelity fan motors hit the market in …? Anyone? ![]() The duplex fan motor could be found with either a Paragon, Towle, or Fidelity name on the motor tag. ![]() ![]() ![]() Attached Image (viewed 119 times): Last edited on Sat Nov 30th, 2019 05:50 am by Russ Huber |

In 1901 the George C. Towle Mfg. Co. now owned and operated by the Lancaster Stauffer management starting in 1899 placed a new line of DC desk fans and CF on the market. These desk fans and CF were given the trademark name of "Eclipse". The 12" desk fan motor was made of CAST IRON.![]() Attached Image (viewed 106 times): Last edited on Sat Nov 30th, 2019 09:31 pm by Russ Huber |

The George C Towle Mfg. Co. revolver fan motor was introduced to the market for the 1903 fan motor season. No doubt Towle's attempt to compete with the Coleman, Shedd, Eck, etc. oscillating and breeze deflectors. ![]() Attached Image (viewed 71 times):

Charles Stauffer(the prominent Lancaster son to the recently deceased CEO of Towle father John F. Stauffer meets with other Towle directors in Oct. of 03. The name of the George C. Towle Mfg. Co. will now be changed to the Fidelity Electric Co. before the 03 year is out. http://www.pa-roots.org/data/read.php?31,480758 If you read the backgrounds of George C. Samuel & Martin Insull(The Chicago Edison-General Incandescent Arc Light Co.) had their eye on the J. P. William's Paragon fan motor as early as 97. J. P. Williams sold the Paragon Fan & Motor Co. to GI(Samuel & Martin Insull) in 99. Williams falls off the map at his NY sales office it appears in 1900. The image second from last dates 99. GI was Bergmann's US conception & concern prior to Insull taking his seat. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Attached Image (viewed 53 times): Last edited on Sun Dec 1st, 2019 04:39 pm by Russ Huber |

The PRIZE rib base Eclipse desk fan motor from Lancaster is not Fidelity badged. The earliest rib base Eclipse desk fan motor would sport the George C. Towle Mfg. Co. name on the tag. Also, the PRIZE revolver ribbed base Eclipse desk fan motor would have been a one season run in 1903 with a motor tag sporting the George C. Towle Mfg. Co. name on the tag. ![]() ![]() Attached Image (viewed 46 times):

Fidelity despite fan motor changes, additions, and modifications, maintained the 12" and 16" stationary and oscillating model ribbed base fan motors 1904-11. Fidelity being the successor to the George C. Towle Mfg. Co. in 1904 was incorporated under the Towle name in 1898. ![]() ![]() Attached Image (viewed 40 times): Last edited on Sun Dec 1st, 2019 06:50 pm by Russ Huber |
