So I am putting new wiring and a new speed coil and switch from Richard on my vornado. I don't have the new coil or switch yet but next week I should. My question is this. I put on a round wire for the main lead in and there is no room to put in a wire out to the motor. I put a second hole under the Vornado plastic cap. To do this I will need to cut a small relief notch out of the cap. I am a bit hesitant to do this. I could remove the wire where it is now and drill a new one  just ahead of the original bushing outside the cap this way I will not have to modify the cap. Any advice helpful thanks.

If it were my fan, I would not put any extra holes in it. Instead, I would obtain a grey or brown two conductor zip cord (lamp cord) similar to the original and run the wires out of the one hole as the fan came originally.

The project so far. Installed the new bushings and painted the unit. Gray for the back parts and a vintage turquoise for the rest. All I need is the new switch and coil and I can put it together. Thanks for the input but I decided to go with the two grommet hole idea. I wanted to use the cloth round cord. If anyone wanted to its an easy fix to repair the hole but personally I like this look.
