Got the Emerson back together. This was a complete tear down. I wondered why the fan would only run at one speed. Inside the three wire grouping to the head the insulation has disintegrated and was crossing over to all three connections.

Thanks. I don't have a land line but I picked it up at a flea market. I grew up with one on a two party line. I have one other Emerson 9646. I did not refurbish it. Bought it already done I may sell it and keep this one. The wife says to keep them both. LOL. I may then sell the Northwind 450 I refurbished.
