 Has anyone had luck with replacing a switch for their Kisco Hassock? I attempted to repair but just can get the switch to line up correctly. And that dang spring! Arrrr!!!

Hi Jason - I want to welcome you to our little corner of the web. I'm a little surprised no one has replied to your post yet. We have a variety of experts in our club and usually someone has the answer to almost any fan problem that arises. Unfortunately, I'm not that technical person in this case - but want to welcome you nonetheless. I own the same model fan you have and I love it. I had one as a kid that I (regrettably) sold at a yard sale when I was in college and my parents were moving. The one I had as a kid had a bad switch and my dad replaced it with a 3-speed rotary switch (one that you kept turning in the same direction) but I know you want to preserve the original switch. It took me years to find another one (shown in attached photo) to add to my collection. This fan was made a little later than I originally thought.....mid to late 1950's. There was a post on this forum some months ago about Kisco fans which had all kinds of literature and advertising material. This same model was also present in an office on the original Perry Mason show (series aired 1957 to 1966). Not sure how this happened, but the AFCA museum in Zionsville, Indiana has this very fan complete with certificate of authenticity from the television studio prop department. Wow! that's a gorgeous example! Did you repaint it? I have three with this one being my most recent purchase. Unfortunately, the controller was finicky which lead to my attempt at repair, failed attempt. I was hoping some had some suggestions from a repair they did. I'm not electrically savvy thus not sure how best to repair/replace. Thank you for the warm welcome.

Hi Jason - yes, I did repaint it. But this is not a professional or technical paint job with specially formulated paint and sprayed in a paint booth. This was done with rattle-can spray paint in my backyard. I put a coat of Rustoleum printer and then 2 tops coats of the colored paint. It's not a high-dollar fan and the rattle-can job suites me just fine. The fan did not have a glossy finish to start with, so a professional mirror finish is not required (in my opinion). When I was given this model fan as a kid from a great-aunt, my dad also disassembled the fan and repainted it using a similar rattle-can process. I'm not even entirely sure why I was given the fan. It was in the basement (where I was not allowed to go) and I had never seen it before the day my great-aunt sent my dad to the basement to retrieve it. It was not a situation where I had lusted after it prompting her to give it to me. There must have been an issue with the switch, but don't remember what it was. All I know is dad replaced it with a 3-speed switch that you always turned in the same direction much like a lamp switch. It always ran fine and was a good fan which is why I had regrets about selling it. Attached Image (viewed 38 times):
