Here is a mint condition 50s era pushbutton box fan with thermostat. Everything works including the pilot light. At some point the cord was replaced with some modern heavy rubber cord and a 3 prong plug. I'm thinking it was done by some electrician that had to use modern osha standards. It was well done and can you can always replace it with a period correct cord from some other box fan if you dont like the look. The fan appears to have been used very little and it has very little wear and tear. The grills could use a good detailed cleaning but that's about it. $125

i have this fan on a rollabout stand, it says automatic but there is no timer or thermostat. just 3 speed pushbutton. The body and blade were made by Chelsea, only the motor was different. Like Chelsea fans of this generation the one weakness is the rubber ring between the hub and blade center, it turns to black goo and the blade goes bad, i always seal that with elmers when i get a Chelsea made fan. These are great units and this one looks lovely. I went to an estate sale once and i got 2 of these in the boxes, with window panels and 3 speeds each way with lights and thermo $5 each. I almost had a heart attack. One was perfect and one needed the rubber blade spacer repaired.

Thanks for all the great info as usual Tom  :up:Here is a good shot of the rubber gasket on mine. It still looks pretty good. I love it when I find a great box fan for the price of a junket. That happens less often these days though

what i do is i take a toothpick and  dip it in the glue bottle over a few days i "seal" that rubber with  several coatings of elmers white glue to keep as much air out and it has worked for me. the back side too. for some reason that rubber can turn to tar and before the blade comes apart it spits black goop all over the place... nice find good luck with it!
