This USPS mail business is terrible - - there is a regional depot near Richmond (Sandston) that is holding a dozen or so packages for a week?? Says "IN TRANSIT" with red dot?? 2 hours away. Any one else seen this in their tracking?

Steve i too belong to that club. I bought a set of fan panels from Hersehy Pa (3 hour drive) shipped out the 5th, still "in Transit" with red dot, i called the local PO and they scoffed, apparently "priority" mail isnt a priority and it could be 2 weeks ...so then why did they send me an email with an estimated date of the 8th? if they had sent an email saying delays will see delivery on the 18th then so be it, ... i wouldnt be watching for it everyday i HOPE the bills i mail are at least getting there on time very disappointing , but the way it is you and i are not alone on the this either...sad

I send 35-40 registered mail every week in my business. I'd say 15 of those will now come back as "undeliverable" to confirmed addresses and 10 are delayed at least 2 weeks before delivery now. They can't seem to manage to deliver things to offices that have been there for 20 years and I regularly mail things to. I've even had mail come back addressed to the federal courthouse as "undeliverable." I had a package that was shipped December 21 and remained "in transit" until I did a trace, then suddenly showed up this week. I will add that the mail dropped off around September/October of last year by our estimation. I wonder why.....

You can't really blame the government for the poor postal service. It's run by a corporation on behalf of the government. As far as deliveries are concerned, it's a mixed bag right now, with individual sorting sites practically at a standstill, especially the ones located near large cities. I've had packages delivered out here in 3 days on the average, but right now I've got one stalled in Brooklyn, NY for two weeks. There's a number of reasons for this, not the least of which is this dam pandemic business. Not much we can do about it. After all, most of the major transport organizations are working in tandem carrying parcels for each other now. So, if USPS is having trouble, likely FEDEX and UPS won't be much better. It will probably clear up in a few weeks, I think. Cheers, Bill

True, however it seems that those at the top have cut hours and positions according to our postman. He receives no leeway to complete his route, his timetable is strict now and what is not delivered today, too bad. He says there are major backups at the sorting facilities so he gets piles of mail periodically and cannot deliver it all. I received a letter today that was postmarked on 12/18/2020 William Dunlap wrote: You can't really blame the government for the poor postal service. It's been so inconsistent lately. I ordered a couple brush/spring assemblies from a company in California. Shipped on Wednesday, arrived here in the middle of the country on Friday. On the other hand, in late November I ordered a birthday gift for my wife, three weeks in advance of her birthday mind you. Also out of California. It arrived earlier this week, six weeks after shipping. Three weeks late for her birthday. Both USPS. Go figure.

"0" Liability. I mentioned my experience before, but here we go again, I sold fan on ePay for $2400 shipped it out with famous USPS (15 Billion in the hole of taxpayer’s money) on Nov.23rd.2020..! two months later it is still in transit to next facility. Had to return money to buyer, lost $230 to ePay fees, and $59 to USPS. Filed 13 cases with USPS, opned USPS account and filed Package Interception form (was eligible) received message later that "package is not iterceptable" and got charged $13.59 for it. Our ANY government services are incapable, USPS should be privatized!!! long ago and save taxpayers money.

We just went through this over Christmas. Shipped a package using 2 Day Priority Mail. It took 7 days, so I went to USPS to see about a refund. They said "2 Day" is only an estimate BUT if I had sent it "2 Day Priority Mail EXPRESS", I could have filed a refund request. I ordered a small item from a company in Colorado and after receiving the Tracking Number started watching it. It made it to Kansas City and sat there for 3 days, then made its way to the Dallas area where it sat for another 3 days, then to Austin where it set for 2 days, then to a town 5 miles from us and then to our city. I guess I paid for warehousing..........

The problem with the USPS is that it has been bastardized. (starting in 1979) It is an unholy combination of a private corporation running the service on behalf of the government. The impetus of the corporation is to destroy the public's confidence of the service, paving the way toward ultimate privatization. The end result will be just another UPS or FEDEX, two companies I will not deal with. Their service is no better than the USPS and cost sometimes 3 or 4 times as much. What's to like about that? To be honest, the cost of their services here has a lot to do with the remote location where I live, but I think you get the picture. We already have two major carriers that are no better than the USPS. Cheers, Bill

They totally SUCK! I can't even keep up with the number of orders they have lost. I'm having to replace (and remake) items, or issue refunds. I have orders that show they never picked up, ones that have been stuck at a location for weeks, and even an order for a customer in Canada that scanned a few days ago in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Every morning I spend most of my time answering emails about lost items and researching Tracking history...

The plan for privatization of the USPS is on schedule and working just fine. Soon there will be noise in DC about it. Then we'll have another UPS or FEDEX. You can expect the price of shipping to go through the roof. Of course, with no improvement in service. Cheers, Bill

I have no problem with Fedex. They're always cheaper for packages. My issue is that a) I'm required to use Certified mail for certain documents and b) the post office, while not 100% was VASTLY more reliable about 6 months ago, prior to the new appointee taking over and screwing with the operation. My regional center has no mailing machines since then. Guess the way to make things more reliable was to remove automation and go back to hand sorting. Right the onus on the quality of the service is down to individuals in the service who because of their work ethic try as hard as possible to provide the best service. It's an uphill battle for them because the cards are stacked against them. I know my postal workers here, some by name, and every one wants to do the best job possible. The problems are coming from management, from the top. Cheers, Bill

My dad's a mail man in Illinois. They've been hit hard with all the Covid craziness. Many moms have chosen or been forced to stay home to care for their kids. They're allowed to stay home up to 60 days and the post office can not replace them unless they decide not to come back...and some don't. My dad's been working crazy over time. 10-11.5 hr days are the norm - even on days off. The OT is so out of hand, his office no longer allows anyone to work past 8pm - too expensive. They're under-staffed and over-worked - until that normalizes, expect more of the same.

I've had a few things delivered via FedEx in the last few weeks. Delivered on time, without delay in the time frame described. I don't have any complaints. As I understand it, the USPS will not allow FedEx to deliver to P.O. boxes because the USPS owns the P.O. boxes. The USPS carriers and the post offices near me have always been helpful. However, in years past I've known of certified mail items to be sent via USPS and not arrive at the prescribed date and time. This had nothing to do with viruses; it was just poor organization. Bottom line is I personally think the Post Office should be required to pre-fund their pension liabilities. To what extent is probably an open question going forward, but successful businesses pre-fund. Big businesses that fail to adequately fund pensions have been bailed out. Last thing that needs to happen is another set up for a bail out. Regarding fans, I have used FedEx and USPS. Both services delivered without a hitch, but that was outside the holiday season and there was no pandemic at the time. Andrew Block wrote: I have no problem with Fedex. I respect anyone who does their job, but the PO is basically a utility and therefore IDGAF whatever they need to do to fix their operation. This is not a restaurant or a store being shorthanded. If they started cutting off electricity because they didn't have enough people to keep the plant going, then people would be up in arms. Just because the PO doesn't get much use from John Q. Public thanks to email and texting, doesn't mean they can just drop the ball. f they say it's 2 day delivery, and I pay for 2 day delivery, then I expect 2 days, not 2 weeks. This is costing some of my clients hundreds of dollars a day in delays. USPS returns mail sent to a federal courthouse as "undeliverable?" C'mon, that's just BS and some idiot not wanting to sort it correctly.

I talked to my PO worker today about these issues. She actually hadn't heard about any delays with service. The PO here is operated differently than the mainland. She says the workers here have a lot of crossover skills. She sorts, works the counter and some even drive as well. On the mainland, she says they only have one duty. When someone gets sick, they have to pull from the off duty workers, or get someone from another department. This slows things down. A LOT of postal workers are getting covid right now, so that explains a lot. Cheers, Bill

UPS, FEDEX AND USPS are all backed up. Where I work have truck loads of items shipped in and out everyday. Overnight can take a week or more. Regular shipments up to 30 days. Local shipping is not to bad, but interstate shipping is another story.

I am one of the sorting machine operators for the Indianapolis FedEx. At least at our station, we are very easily sorting 30k packages or more in a four hour or less sort and always dispatching on time. We had a management change last summer and now our facility is working better and hitting our target numbers more than any time in the past decade. Granted I don’t work at every FedEx across the nation, but ours is having no trouble keeping up and it services a fairly large city (at least by regional standards).
