Hey all,

I have a Signal model 1251 and I am trying to take it apart to replace the head wire.  How to I get the motor housing apart?  I took the nuts off, but there is nothing I can do to get the housing apart.

I am trying this on an old Westinghouse fan and have the same problem.  Are the motor shell halves pressed together?

Thanks,

Well, I think I can splice some new wire on the headwire as most of it is ok and it's hidden inside the rear cover for the most part.

I do have a question about the oscillator.  It doesn't seem to want to operate properly and looks worn.

Is there supposed to be something more inside that empty space besides grease?

Also, it looks pretty worn.  Is there supposed to be this much space between the shaft and the top cover?

Make sure the motor can move back and forth very easily and make sure you clean out all the old grease and re grease everything, I just worked on a Signal 550A and mine was a little warn as well but after the clean and grease it works fine

Well, I have cleaned it all out and everything moves freely.

How does this gear look to you?  It looks pretty worn out to me.  Also, are there any felt washers in this oscillating gear?  There is one in my westighouse setup and it looks like there is room in this one for a felt washer also.
