I have a 1982 Sanyo three speed 12" desk fan that I got new back then for Christmas when I was 17 years old. The blades are a smoked gray plastic on a white body and stand.  That thing still runs smoothly and quietly, even after being dragged to college with me in the mid-80s.  I've kept it in the garage for the last several years and even though it still runs well, the guard is starting to rust badly.  It is a silver colored wire guard but the humidity in South Texas has caused it to rust since I run it in garage.  I guess I could sand the rust off the wires and spray it silver and maybe I should before it rusts away.  Anyway, didn't have any questions about it, just wanted to make the observation that despite it not being pampered, it still runs well on all three speeds.  BTW, it's not push button controlled.  It has a slide switch in front to go from speed to speed.

I have one of those as well, that I had gotten from the former pastor of the church I grew up in, it still runs but its missing its original cap that goes over the center of the fan blade assembly that holds the fan blades onto the motor shaft, and I also lost cover that goes onto the slide switch on mine at some point in time between having it at my parents house and moving it to my current residence. Mine though has semi transparent blue blades.

Tom, I'll take a picture of it tonight when home from work and post it for you.  I'll also take pictures of a couple of other fans I have (1940 12" Vortalex, 1911 GE BMY, 1949 Emerson 79646AU, 1935 GE 12" Quiet Blade fan, two original Vornado's and a 1999 Vornado Silver Swan).
Levi, sounds like your fan has had a harder life than mine, though mine hasn't been pampered either.

Yes well according to my former pastor who gave me the fan he told me that the cover on the fan blades went missing back in the late 1980s. The switch cover though went missing only with in the past. 5 years or so.

Tom, attached is a pic of the 1982 Sanyo fan.  I've created another thread on the Pre-1950 forum with a picture of my other fans.  Michael

yep thats exactly like the fan I have, except mine has blue blades, and its missing the center cap for the blades and the switch cover. in place of the centre cover on my fan like this I'm using an old screw to hold the blades on and so far its worked at holding the blades on.
