Can someone tell me how to remove the grilles on a GE 14" box fan? It has the grilles that stick through the top and bottom of the housing and have rubber tips on each spot. I have never messed with this grille style. My 20" ones have the grilles that attach to the outside through clips.
It looks like I have to bend the grilles but I can't seem to get them to bend enough to come out, and I'm afraid I'll break the rubber pieces.

You are on the right track. Some of the 20-inch fans have that same grill. You do have to bend the grill, but it will "spring back," do you don't really have to worry about damaging the grill. You can wrap your fingers around it sort of in the middle on one side.....once you start pulling the grill out ward, the bend should make it shorter in height and allow you to get one of prongs out. Do the same for the other side.

You will also have to bend the grill in a similar way to put it back on.
