Emerson 77648 TE start capacitor needed.. Mine wont start the fan, all speeds work, but I have to spin the blade to start it. I tried a 4.0 capacitor, it wont work, wont start., If anyone has a source, please let me know. The capacitor that  I took out is a Sprague 3.0-285  #188 200P110 as best I can read it. thanks for any help at all.. Richard collier 4098930161

If the newer models are close to the same a the 77648-AS then it would have originally had a 1.50 mfd but they are hard to find. 1.70 mfd will work.

zach, the cap your posting about is for a 12" fan, the 16" takes a 2.5 MFD cap

Not to be a know-it-all, but if your fan didn't start with the 4uf cap, you probably have other problems. If all else is correct, it should have started fine, with a bit of excess current in the start windings. Fine for a short test, and shouldn't damage anything.

I'd look for wiring mistakes, or possible open start windings.

Once again Rod Rogers is correct.  I tried several capacitors on it and started looking for other problems. this fan has a bent center shaft, after talking to the owner he had trouble getting the blade off, lots of trouble enough to knock everything out of whack. I cant repair it for him, and feel bad about it. soo. I am looking for another fan for him. Any good 16 inch emerson is fine, He just wants a fan that works. If anyone know of one for sale other than ebay, please contact me.. 4098930161
