I can't say for sure what SIZE belt you need, but for almost any belt-driven house fan I can think of (unless it's a HUGE industrial fan) will need a fractional horsepower belt. This is very important. These belts are not hard to find, but if you are at an auto parts store or a industrial supply house (such as Granger or Northern Tools), you need to specify this. As an example, belts made for vehicles are NOT fractional horsepower belts and can do long-term motor damage if used on a fan.

Many thanks for the corrections. Am happy to report that the fan belt needed for the Robbins & Myers whole house fan measures 46.375" on the outside. At more than 70 years of age, the fan is now back in tiptop shape and clearing the house of God knows what in seconds.

Fantastic to hear. A lot of us grew up with attic fans & still have them. If you get four different brands of 42" attic fans, you will probably find four different sizes of belts.
