Hello everyone. I am brand new to the forum. What I found: I picked up a Kenmore 336.80901 at a sale recently. It was sitting outside on the ground. Someone had a go at the oscillating mechanism (it was half taken apart already). After mulling over it for ~5-10 minutes, one of the guys running the sale offered it to me for $2, so I took it. Unfortunately, I don't have any before photos. It was a greenish/brown color and in rough shape, the fan guard was rusting - although it did run, slowly. What needed attention: The original speed selector switch was broken. I will attach a photo below. A friend of mine was able to 3D print a new selector handle in carbon fiber filled nylon (it is much stronger than the original polycarbonate one). The speed coil has a black spot but passes continuity/ohms checks on my multi-meter. I cleaned it well with a nylon brush and sprayed the coil with acrylic lacquer. I have not yet put a load on the coil ![]() I disassembled the entire fan and repainted it. I have read that people prefer to recover the original paint... Believe me, it needed new paint. The rotor/stator was covered in green corrosion. I cleaned and regressed the motor and bearings.I believe I have the oscillating mechanism working properly - it was full of grease as thick as wet clay. What I could use help with: Knowing that wiring diagrams would be hard to find, I labeled every single wire and took a photo before disassembly. Unfortunately, enough of the labels came off and the photo isn't great looking back at it. I should have taken a photo with the labels ![]() Do any of you have some info on this speed coil wiring? Each of the coils are about 1.5-2ohms apart. I don't want to blow up the coil on the first attempt. It is a 2 wire design, however, this is a metal strain relief that could potentially be considered a ground to the upper housing. Also, how can I upload multiple photos? Or is it preferred to make an individual post for each additional photo? Attached Image (viewed 176 times):

I figured out how to add multiple photos at once. In the top down view you can see a stamped steel name plate. I was home for the holidays and my Dad and I had some fun with naming it. We called it the "MAHO stubby #9." My initials and because of the open design and metal blade, it is the "stubby #9." ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I wired the fan using this diagram as an example: http://www.fancollectors.org/info/mccomas/Generic_3_Speed.jpg I got no movement. Although, I did get some humming on speed 1. Last edited on Sat Jan 9th, 2021 07:07 pm by Michael Aho |

Wow that looks exactly like mine. Yes, I have read that this is a rebranded signal fan. Do you happen to have photos of the wiring/model number of that signal fan?---- Was supposed to be a quote of your first post. Mine looks just like your sears/signal/kenmore fan. I got the wiring all figured out. The fan is running smoothly. It moves a ton of air. I'll draw out the wiring diagram and add it as an edit to this post.
