I bought an old Bar-Brook Window Fan. Barn Fresh. The box is 25", the fan blade seems to be 22". It has two switches. One switch is for HI/Low/Off. Second switch is for IN/OUT. I want to install this in my workshop for airflow. I just wired it to see if it works and it does. The problem seems to be: When I switch it to IN the RPM's don't seem to be as fast as the OUT mode. It runs pretty powerfully in the OUT mode by only 1/2 as fast in the IN mode. Has anyone ever taken one of these apart? Since I'm going to be using it as a work horse. I'd like to get it rewired and gone through to make sure its at optimal performance. Does anyone have specs on this version of fan? Does anyone know someone willing to restore it? I really like the fan and its going to look great in my workshop.    Attached Image (viewed 364 times):

IT SOUNDS LIKE YOUR SWITCH MIGHT NOT HAVE A GOOD CLEAN CONNECTION WITH ONE OF THE CONTACTS ON "IN". OILING OF COURSE IS ALWAYS RECOMMENDED BUT THAT IT WORKS ON "OUT" BUT VERY SLOWLY ON "IN" IS EITHER SWITCH OR A WINDING. THAT IS A VERY INTERESTING LOOKING FAN!

I would do what everyone else suggests, but check to see if the fan has a capacitor.It might be the capacitor is leaking or going bad !! If it is and you continue to run the fan with a bad capacitor when the capacitor fails it will cook the motor !! Just my opinion !!  ...

FROM WHAT I CAN SEE THE MOTOR LOOKS VERY SIMILAR TO THE HOMART KENMORE 24" ALCOA THIN LINE WHOLE HOUSE FAN FROM MID 50S TO EARLY 60S . ON THE TWO I HAD THE TOGGLE SWITCH WAS ON THE BACK OF MOTOR (LATERS MODELS HAD PUSHBUTTONS) AND BECAUSE THEY WERE USED ON EXHAUST ALMOST ALL THE TIME, THE TOGGLE BECAME LAZY AND WHEN SWITCHING FROM OUT TO IN THE SWITCH WOULD REALY NEED TO BE "CLICKED " A COUPLE OF TIMES TO "IN" TO GET IT TO CONNECT . JUST A THOUGHT!

Thank you everyone. I'll check the capacitor, give it an oiling and see if i can tighten up my relay contacts. Going to try to find me a Homart Kenmore 24" motor, just incase i mess this one up.
