Just be aware that it might trip Ground fault breakers and outlets with the ground attached. Many of these old fans leak a little current. Not enough to feel a shock or hurt you ( in most cases) but the circuitry may detect it. If it does cause problems, just detatch that ground. They never had them originally, and likely because it was owned by a government or municipal entity, one was likely added as part of their safety program.
