by the way i do have a 3 wing kmart box fan in the carton with the robin egg blue paint and white plastic grilles, is that what you are looking for? or the one with metal grilles? or plastic blade and blue body?.....tom

im pretty much interested in any older 3 metal blade metal or plastic grille lakewood or something along that line that works and is in decent shape....as i know it will be with you being the owner.......i want to phase out the newer laskos that i have lol... Also, i am looking for the plastic diffuser type grille for my beige ge... On another note, i never let any of my fans get wet either, and always turn them off when im not home, or if im asleep....except for my blue lakewood, that one is employed as my bedroom fan..but it is hardly ever ran on higher than low speed....Same with the G.E for most of the year, i use it to move air through the living room...in the summertime it is a different story, they get run on full tilt most of the time, but we dont have central air up here and it gets to be 100 plus at times Last edited on Mon Jan 21st, 2013 03:23 pm by Jason Puniak |

I missed part of this thread, your motor is not "freball" type, GE did not use them in their own fans. Yes laying your fan on its back and oiling from the front saves drilling a hole. Your fan is 1959 because it has green trim. If it is red trim it is 1958, in 1960 they went to the light blue spruce (aqua) color with the sharp corners.....

I was just wondering about these motors if its a concern can it be it rewound and get rid of the aluminum and just have copper only? I know its not cheap but I rather be safe and keep the fan from burning up.

do yourself a favor matthew, and just install a fused plug from a christmas light cord, or something similar...the aluminum wiring is supposed to be buried in the windings, and i know for a fact that all seven headwires on the ge reversible x vent motor are aluminum too, as i just repaired the headwires on mine the other day....the fused plug should pop if anything ever goes wrong with it....other than that, just be careful with it as any other fan, dont leave it on when youre not home, dont let it get wet, etc etc

years ago i learned not to use the switches on just about any of my vintage gadgets and got in the habit of using the plug (out) as my on/off switch....with old stuff you just never know....

ishould start doing that...the switch on my ge is finicky on low intake....i guess thats where the previous owners ranm it most of the time too

Hey Tom, might be interested, got a pic? I think the only Kmart fan I ever saw that had a metal guard was not made by lakewood but Toastmaster and was all metal, only ever seen a pic but would love to find one of those. Plastic or metal blades dont matter as long as its blue Kmart.

Mark, i will send a pic before the weekend is over. . While i am putting my christmas stuff away i will try to find it. The all metal version i have is tagged as a Bradford from Two-guys, a Hurricane-Fan. Medium blue with the same blade as the KMart robins egg model. I dont have a plastic blade version in blue, several in tan and one in avocado....all the above are lakewoods. I will get you a pic.....tom
