Some of you may remember this fan from last years Fan Fair. I had assembled it the night before we packed up for St.Louis and found out that it ran hot. I decided to show the fan anyway and several people wanted to buy it that weekend, but I wasn't going to sell a lemon, or be responsible for a house fire!! I brought it home and it's been a shelf queen ever since. A few people recently asked if I still had it and if it was running yet so I decided to block an entire day off from my customer fans and show this Seagull some love with a fresh rewind. Glad I did it, she runs so nice now I wish I had done it months ago. Here's a few pics: Attached Image (viewed 1953 times):

I am going to sell this one, but in fairness to those who really wanted it, I'm going to hold off on listing it. If we talked about it at FanFair, PM me and we'll make a deal. Attached Image (viewed 1506 times):

I was at Ron's house on Sunday and he showed me this fan and it is immaculate. The paint job is flawless and the attention to detail is Marine like. Very cool fan, and a very well done professional restoration. You won't find a nicer one.

Very nice. No knock on your restoration which is immaculate, but as a design exercise, the non-oscillator has a much nicer Deco presence.

Thanks to all for the kind remarks. A lot of time, effort, and money goes into these restorations and I really enjoy sharing the end results with you all. The fan is no longer available, it's going to a good home for sure! Ron

Ron, That is undoubtedly the absolute best Seagull fan I have ever seen! ![]() Beautiful job! ![]() Who says you can't put a $1000 restoration on a $50 fan? ![]() Let me know when you want to restore mine for $50. ![]() Really looks good! ![]()

I remember that fan well from FanFair, it was a head turner for sure. Santana was in love with that fan and it pained me to keep my wallet in my pocket, but right now there are more important things for us(new house). Maybe you will have something interesting for fan fair this year. Glad the rewind worked out for you, I am learning those same ropes right now and I have had some successes and failures. Man those successes feel good--that one looks like a home run![]() ![]()

Ron what color is that on the blades? I have a fan that I am wanting to do something similar to and I would like to know where I might need to start looking. I won't be using HVLP, but at least I will have a color code or something to start with. :)

Wow Cory, this post is a blast from the past!Something I learned from an old timer back when I first started doing custom paint was to just buy one or two shades of silver. So I buy the brightest one and I can tint it darker if needed. My go to silver for the last 25 years has been PPG. It's DBU 4443, bright silver quartz metallic. This is a base coat paint, but it can be bought in a single stage as well.On the Seagull, I'm pretty sure I tinted it down a little with black so I can't give you an exact color but this should get you really close.Good luck with it, hope this helped. Thanks guys. I sold this fan about a year ago, it's one of many that I wish I would have kept. I just saw a few glimpses of it in the last fan collector magazine, looks like she's living the good life down in Florida! I have the stationary model. Maybe this old post resurfacing is a sign that I should restore that one too!

Totally beautiful Ron. I know I don't usually admit to liking customs, hot rods, etc. in fans and I don't usually but, sometimes, a fan is done in a tasteful color or combination looking better looking than it was in its original state. So it looks to me with your fan. Nice job.

Yeah, that Seagull is amazing. I have been in love with the oscillating model ever since I found this post a few months back and I have been meaning to post about the color silver that is. I prefer the oscillator to the stationary because of that awesome brass wheel back there. I would love to see your stationary done up though, maybe even in the same color combo! Be so cool to have them side by side. The oscillators are almost impossible to find it seems too. I'd like to get you to do a fan paint job for me one day just so I could have one in my house by Ron May. Maybe even Josh and Tim too..... Hahaha.
