Does the small open ring cage come in 2 depths? I acquired one for my 5110 and it seems shallow. The blades almost hit the cage!  I think I remember seeing a thread on this once.

Hi Gary,You got your cage from me I know.  I measured the one on my 5110 that it came with and it's 2-⅜ to 2-½" deep overall, maybe more closer to 2.5".   The front of the blade is about ¼" away from the back of the cage.   Unless one of the 6 wing fans has a wider cage I think they are all the same.  So, with that said, my 2010 cage (6 wing) is 2-⅝" deep.  I have a PI-241 and a 1510 that are the same as on my 5110 but my 910 cage is 2-⅝" or a 1/16th more in depth.  All those fans came to me with those cages so it looks like there can be a small difference up to about 1/8th or 3/16" in depth.   What does your cage measure overall in depth?

I will have to check when I get home Friday. Next question, are the struts bent such that they offset the depths a bit? My struts are pretty straight but perhaps need to be bent a bit outward.

My struts are straight also Gary.   I have had a few fans that I have put just a little bend into the struts to give more clearance to the blade/cage.  Maybe that is why Emerson put the "L" bend in the cage ends of the struts to get more clearance to the cage from the front of the blade.   MY 2010 has a lot of clearance but it has those about 1' L bends in the struts.   I'd have to hunt around my fans to remember when the struts were bent instead of being straight.

Maybe it is the blade that is different also? The 2 fans I have gotten recently are definitely different pitched. The 21666 has a deep pitch and the 1510 is very shallow. I know part of that is because one is a 6 wing and the other is 4 but the 1510 is VERY  shallow.

The early 4 wing Emersons all seem to be very shallow pitch.

Ok so what if he has the wrong blade with a deeper pitch?

Do you mean what would happen if a deep pitched blade were put on a fan that came with a shallow blade?   Looking at some of my Emersons it looks like the three speed models (first smooth step base) have more pitch to the blades than on earlier pie crimp bases.   I don't know what the effect would be to put a different pitched blade on a fan made for another pitch.

Steve what I am thinking is his problem my not be the cage. It could be the wrong pitched blade. That could be why it is so close to the cage. But I have not had a lot of the different model Emerson's so I am not sure? I really don't know. And your right it could also effect the motor.

For now I am using a blade that fit a 52646 Trojan Lever Oscillator. It is a cast 4 blade hub. Pitch seems average for a 4 pole fan motor.

I would not expect that there would be different 12" 4 wing Trojan blades used by Emerson.   The 6 wing blades might have been of a different pitch possibly?
The cage/blade distance on your fan looks just like mine Gary.  The blade is definitely not centered in the middle of the cage.
