Hello. Newbie here - I need some help to determine if this project is worth my time.

I purchasd a 16" Emerson 77648-as. I referenced the Emer_77648sm diagram and rewired the base/plug and the motor is strong. When plugged in the blades hit the cage at the top. The cage does not appear to have any bends or damage. What is the most common cause of this? Bent blades?  I have not yet taken off the cage or blades, but I am aware there of the pages to help with this. Thanks for your time!

If the outermost edge of the blades are hitting the very inside/top of the cage, my money is on a bent cage.

Pics always help... vids are even better...

It turns out only one blade was hitting the cage not all of them. So it is a blade problem, not a cage problem.

sounds like one of the blades is bent, which can be kind of tricky to deal with because if you don't get it bent back correctly the fan can walk off the table so to speak.

I have a 79648 that has one blade that's about 5/64ths longer than the other 3. The bladeset is fairly well balanced. I suppose that's how it was when new (there's no evidence that the other three blades were shortened).

Just a way of saying that a long blade may not be the problem (and was done at the factory for balance).
