Picked this up for 25 bucks off craigslist. Really wanted one of these because of the design and baffles. This was running well but now its running great! The body is powder coated flat black and the cages and adjustment collars were powder coated in polished aluminum. Man this thing throws some aire! Enjoy!

i have redone several of the 3 wing models and they are a lot of work. i have redone several of the 4 wingers as well, ditto a lot of work. the earlier models with rubber rear grille wing are a bear. i have a 3 and 4 blade units still to do. i have used PreVal sprayers to get the exact westinghouse blue. a mess but comes out great. glad you saved this off the dump! if you want more air i have 2 window versions with the double 17" blade and the super mobilaire unit too, imagine 2 of your fans in one oval housing!

There are multiple versions of these Mobilaire. Hex vs. round motor. 3 blade vs. 4 blade. Are there particular models from which a buyer should steer clear?

No i think they are all great fans. The models from the 60s tend to have box fan motors, but they were pretty decent. some of  The  4 wing models and some of the early 3 wing versions have a Levolier toggle/chain switch which can be a pain in the butt when they break and are hard to find, but other than that they are great fans
