Howdy folks.  I am new to fan resuscitation, having only done one old DC GE fan, and the members were kind enough to advise me on it, which I very much appreciate.  I have lately inherited an Emerson 77648 - BQ, a 16" desk top fan with a squeal to it when you put it on high.  I would like to investigate it's innards, but see no set screw on the blade hub to release the blade from the motor.  Would it be possible for one of the Emerson aficionados to enlighten me on the procedure to remove the blade and guard from one of these.  My thanks in advance for any and all help.
Regards from Texas,  James Strubar

The blade turns clockwise off the shaft. The key is to safely hold the shaft in place from the backside, normally with a screwdriver through the motor housing being careful not to hit the windings etc. Here's an article that does a good job explaining. Otherwise, some folks much more experienced in this can explain. http://www.fancollectors.org/info/remove.htm

Thank you Dave for the info. and link.  You have shortened my learning curve considerably.  I am constantly amazed by the amount of knowledge shared on this forum.  I enjoy reading it even when I don't have any fan projects going.
Best regards and kudos to you for sharing your expertise with a rookie fan mechanic.
