Newbie.  I have a '53 77646-AS with aluminum base.  Recently bought a '50 and it also had an aluminum base.  A '52 arrived yesterday but it has a cast iron base.  Perhaps the base is from an earlier year/model?  Also, the cast iron base has only dimples in the casting for the off and speed positions, unlike the cast aluminum.  The dimples are rather crude and rough looking, but I can tell they've not been altered.  Any clues?

I have nominal '48, '50 & '52 models (28, 30 & 32 inscribed tags) all with non-magnetic bases. My earlier example (15) is magnetic. All carry square recesses denoting position as does any other model Emerson here. I don't know about dimples, but suspect a photo would give someone with real expertise the clue to help answer your question.

This is what happens to aluminum. The rest of the fan cleaned up nicely. Looks like yours has nice original finish. I need one like that for my 77646-AS

I believe he was referring to the recesses to indicate the speed positions, not pitting caused by corrosion? As far as the recesses- some years if not all of them had number decals to show "off" position and the speeds.
None of my fans have original markings, but on a couple,  with the right lighting, you can see a faint outline of the original stamped or decal numbers.

Older ones (and some of the later ones) had the numbers cast into the recesses. If they're smooth, they likely had stamped or decal labels.

I offer speed labels for GE , Century, and R&M fans, but the individual numbers can be cut apart and used for these and other fans.  I believe the few that I added numerals, I used the Century style as the font seemed to be closest to Emerson.
