See the arrows below. In any of the photos I have reviewed on the forums and main page it appears there should be 2 screws/bolts in these areas. In the picture below it looks like something was cut off or welded closed on the left arrow. The right arrow has a cut off bolt - when removed there is a spring/tensioner underneath? Any input is appreciated. Thanks Greg

That is the brush holder for the slip ring

In this photo below I copied from Kim Frank's restoration thread http://www.afcaforum.com/view_topic.php?id=18217&forum_id=1&highlight=gyro can you tell me what are the slip rings? Bottom left. Middle left, top left? My apologies for my ignorance as I have not torn the fan apart yet.

If I am correct In your pic the red arrows point to the slip ring and the green arrows point to the piece that holds the brushes above it. I have never had one apart but that is my guess. They just have the slip ring facing down so you cannot see the brass rings that the brushes make contact with.
