Hi Kiel!  I just got one of those from a flea market.  Here is the thread on it: http://www.afcaforum.com/forum1/49648.html  I haven't restored mine yet but plan to.  Hope to see yours become new again! These are really heavy and solid, too!

I have a fan like that too, and mine works great yet, those fans date to the late 1940s early 1950s.

try Mothers-Aluminum Mag Wheel Polish and the blades will be like mirrors. You can try Dupont #7 car polish (for old school car paint) on a tiny area of the paint and see if it will polish up like new.... I have been successful on taking out marks and making great re-dos with no painting....
