Here is an interesting photo of an Emerson 19648 being used for cooling in the Springfield, Mass, Indian Motocycle factory.   The 19648 was made 1914-18 so this fan pictured was the current 1918 model.  Click on the link below for more interesting photos of the Indian factory.


“South side of the testing department; inset, tester with cooling fan” (This is where the carburetor would be adjusted and the engine checked for good running – requiring a fan for cooling and ventilation) [National Archive]

I'm not sure that's a 1918 model. It doesn't appear to have a handle.

Tom, You caught something that I had not noticed but was going by the photos having been taken in 1918.  Yes, of course, an older model Emerson could have been in the photo.   It was 1917 when carrying handles were added to 12 and 16" Emersons, both stationary and oscillating so this fan is probably from 1914-16.   Good catch.
