49x942B. Strangley, it appears the housing(steel?) is stripped, not the soft brass cup threads. I like this fan, it is different from all my other Vortalex with the ring motor in the shaped base, similar to a GE AOU. I'd like to save it, maybe a run in a larger tap and a Heli-Coil?

Agreed a picture would be helpful.

Are you sure it wasn't a press-in oil cup?  Also could there be a broken-off cup stuck in there, and what you are seeing is the non-threaded inside bore of the broken-off piece?
