Working on a 12" GE 2 Star , 6 wing fan. I was surprised that it has a 3 wire headwire. Haven't worked on one of these before. Is this normal? Frankly, the stator coil seems small compared to later brass bell AOUs. It's a bit hard to see, but the stator looks like a 4 poles with a 90 degree staggered winding.  Are these wired like tanks, but with the resistance built into the speed coil?

It's a steel blade, wrapped s-wire, steel cage 6 wing. 1918?

Before I dig into it, a validation would be appreciated. It's had a headwire replacement in the past, and just want to make sure no one monkeyed with it.

Thanks,

Lane

Have you had the fan apart yet ? If not Ive run across G.E.'s in the past that are 2 wire head wires, but had 3 lead head wires with the extra lead omitted.I believe G.E.used 3 wire head wires on 2 wire fans due to short supply of 2 wire head wires at certain times ? Don't know if that makes any sense !!

I'll post pics as I get it torn apart, but it is definitely connected at both ends. Never seen that past the SMY generation

Lawrence, thanks for the link to that post. I do recall reading that in the past. Mine is the 'serpentine ' style. I just got finished with a Sprague (GE) 2 star , 6 wing just like it, but it had the distinct 4 pole stator and funky bar count rotor.

So I suppose the 3 wire headwire is normal for this fan? I'm just used to seeing their shaded pole motors I guess.

Lane,

I cannot speak to a 3 conductor headwire on a 2-star but my 3-star is a three conductor. And it uses them all.
