Bumped into a guy from the old days on a fan purchase, Bruce Dirks, hadn't seen him in 10 years or so. We got to talking, his favorite fans are battery fans and I had just found the Porter No. 4. He came by this weekend and brought some prototype blades he's working on specifically for the small -- and medium size -- battery motors. They're 6 wing blades right now, he brought 2, an 8" for the No. 4 and a 6" for his Knapp BB which we also tried out on the Porter No 2 I have in my collection. Please forgive the poor pictures and the messy desk. I'm still working on getting the purple paint off the No 4, but it's coming along, there's about 90-95% of the original finish left underneath, but am not sure I can save the ornamentation, the prurple paint really adhered to it.

Regardless, thought I would share his craftsmanship, I ordered a 6" for the No 2 and he's making a 9" for the Porter 4 as well, but with thicker wings. The 8 looks a tad small on that big motor. He'll be making more if there's interest, look for him as a "new" member in the new member section of the magazine, they look really nice, the hub is really nice. I'll chemically age mine when I finish the two "fans."

It's really nice work for a guy in his garage George, the hubs were done at a machinists, the wings were cut and assembly done by Bruce. We measured out the shaft size on the No 4 to .226-7 and the machinist matched it out perfect. The wings are in clock as well.

Forgot to mention the No 4 runs super nice as well. I'm never going to find an original blade -- I don't think -- so these will make nice displays even though they're not original. I'll add a base, binding posts and switch assemplies to both and pop them on a shelf.
