Hi all, new member here, just picked up a Dayton 367 and an Emerson 79646-AU for $50 a pop.  they both work on all speeds so my original intention was simply to just use them as is (with some oiling) but after seeing some of the photos of restored fans on here I am strongly considering that route.
The Dayton has the typical (Ive quickly learned) shattered neck parts so i've reached out to a couple of members about that.

One thing about mine that seems different however are the blades.  They are (poorly) painted black but seem to be aluminum and not brass.  All photos online that I can find of the 367 model show brass blades. Does anyone know when Alum bladed models may have been made?  is there a serial number database or decoder somewhere on here?

The Emerson too has aluminum blades (actually maybe even steel) and the blue logo has a lot of denting but it is otherwise in quite nice shape.

I am interested in restoring them along with a period floor lamp I have and wonder if there are any videos or tutorials for newbies you might recommend.

Thank you all, I look forward to learning and conversing with you.

George in Portland, OR

I think the AU suffix first came out in 1948 or ‘49. There’s a 1949 Emerson catelogue on the site that identifies the blades as steel covered in a black satin paint. There are some good tutorials in the reference section although I don’t think video. Sort of “how to” descriptions for a variety of area. See http://www.fancollectors.org/info/restore.htm
