This was posted to a North Attleboro, MA related page on FB.  I see at least 4 fans.  The building still exists.  It's lower level houses a small and quite good restaurant.

It looks like they may be the old Westinghouse Telephone fans (the fans that they made specifically to be used in telephone switchboard rooms.)

Yep, they were called Telephone Operator Room Fans to be exact, and Westinghouse specialized in them. Follow the link hereto see more info about those fans, including old ads for them.

Yes, so if you ever come across a fan like that in your fan huntings you'll know what it is and you can say you've bought a piece of our country's telephone industry history, seeing as once the "electric rotor dial phone" came into existence in the 1940s it sounded the death toll for the Operator in America, which operators as a profession fell out of use by the 1970s as they were soon replaced by automated systems and computers to do all of the switching that used to be done by hand by actual human operators, that's why phones made since the advent of touchtone dialing no longer have an operator function (the Zero key being marked "Operator").
