I just had to post a picture of my latest find.  I know, it's not rare.  It is a common Emerson 77646 AS.  I picked this up at a flea market last week.  But just look at it.  This is the actual "as found" condition.  I have done nothing to it except bring it home.  After months of looking at Zeros and overpriced, rusty GEs, it is good to know that there are still good fans to be found if you are diligent.

Flea markets and estate sales can be good! I run the same fan in our bedroom every night.

I had the same fan except mine was the 16" version and it was the bronze finished one. But mine didn't work right and the base was in horrible condition with tons of paint loss. I ended up trading it for a 12" Hunter Zephair.

That is not a common find.  A long time ago I found a minty 16".   If you are fortunate enough to get both excellent finish, mechanical condition, and blade in excellent balance, those fans are super efficient and whisper quiet.

Unfortunately Russ, the 16" version of this fan that I came across was anything but minty and because of that I had to trade it with someone for a fan that was in nicer shape and let someone have it that actually knew what they were doing as far as fixing it up went, because I for one wouldn't of been able to of given my Emerson the TLC it needed as I am not experienced enough in bodywork or in painting or blade balancing or speed control troubleshooting to of been able to of gotten my old Emmy up and running properly. :-(

Congratulations on your find. I have a 77646 AS and a 77646 AA and they are the 2 coolest running fans in my collection. They are daily and nightly workers. Last week at a flea market I found a 79646 AU from 1949. It was in good condition except the base cover was rotted away from sitting in a leaky attic. The thing ran nice and quiet and didn’t get warm. I cleaned it up, painted the rot and the cage, used the bottom of a Clorox jug to cover the electrical and glued on some felt to the bottom. Like you, I couldn’t find a rare beauty, but got something functional. It now has the real place of honor, not on display, but in the bedroom…

I have seen 3 great condition Emerson 77648-AS fans for great prices but that was before I knew a lot about fans. Wish I could have bought them because they look so cool. I think I have pictures of them.

Jon - Here is a picture of the front of the fan.

Russ - I found a 77648 AS in near perfect condition about 20 years ago.  Luckily, I had sufficient forethought to keep it.  It was one of my first fans.  It still runs in my living room almost every day.

Nice. I've got a 12 inch but its currently in pieces...w/ the wrong blade & cage. At least now after seeing that pic I have an idea of the blade I'm looking for now.

Zach,  I'm assuming Alec sold it,  which a lot of people on here do with fans they get tired with or just wanted to make room for something else better.
