When you buy old fans from strangers you can expect to find strange things. Check out the front of the armature shaft that the blade was on held by set screw. Your seeing it right, someone in past lathed down the front of the shaft, added threading , and some little brass deally bob on the end.

Now I have to add a new machined armature shaft to the bucket list. The good news is the motor runs great. Bernie saved my butt designing an armature with removeable shaft. I had to be done that way based on the ball motor frame design. The shaft has to come out first so the field frame and armature could be removed as one.

Wow. That almost looks as if they tried to make a wedge-type retaining system, similar to a Browning taper bushing pulley. Only they did it really sloppy.

Also really cool about the shaft design and disassembly / reassembly process!

So the blade slipped over that?

Yes, without the use of the split metal clip over the end of the after factory machining and threading that had been done the play inside the blade hub would be excessive.

The steel shaft I believe to be 5/16" diameter and my good fortune is a machinist without great effort can duplicate it as it was.

Is it me or do you see some GE influence used by Jandus(Bernie Stowe). Or, did Bernie influence GE?  Good luck removing the field without first removing the armature shaft.

Thank you for your thought, Mark.  I had someone prior to your offer to duplicate the original.
