I bought an antique fan yesterday. I took it apart cleaned it up and oiled the bearings. The cord was replaced but not well so I ordered a new two line twist brown with oak Bakelite look plug. The fan runs quiet and well. Its a Barber Coleman two blade. The one in the photo is not the exact one but same make. I will also put an in line turn switch on it. Its a plug in only fan. The blade is steel and a bit rusty. Should I have it chromed or paint it a steel gray. Could also have it copper plated. What would that cost? Thanks for any help.

Hi Jim.  I'm pretty sure the blade on that one is aluminum.  If you remove it, you should find it's very lightweight. Go to your local auto parts store and grab a small container of Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish and go to town with a soft cloth.
