There was a recall on certain Sears fans built by Vernco in 1973 and 1974.  Supposedly involving 72,000 of them.  Does anyone have the inside scoop on what this recall was about? Is it possible to tell if the fan has had the needed repair or upgrade in the past?  I have recently acquired one and don't want to burn the house down with it.  These were high velocity models on pivot stands with lime green plastic cage enclosing metal blades.  The cage was a unique shape, like a square with bulging sides.  Any info appreciated.

Emerson had a fan very similar to that, but not sure if it was Vernco that made it or if Emerson made their own.

Vernco definitely made those fans for Sears. Emerson did have a very similar model, but pretty sure they never made any branded Sears.

There were only a few of those fans (relatively speaking) that were recalled. I can't remember how to tell if yours is one of them. Overall, those are very good fans that move a lot of air.

It is def one that was recalled.  Wondering if there's a way to tell if anyone ever had the recall performed though?  What was the nature of the work done to fix the issue etc? Just got this fan and want to be sure there's no fire hazard.
