Hey guys, just found this old Emerson on Craigslist and live close by. Does this look like anything to be interested in?

Those are great little fans.  10" Emerson Jr. Oscillator.
Ad says "two speeds"  but they only have On/Off.
If you want to buy, check to make sure it oscillates smoothly and quietly...
These can sometimes be bought for around $50.
George Durbin can tell you more about worth, etc....
Happy Fanning!

It’s been on CL for a couple of months now. I’d throw out a lower offer first and see if they’ll bite.

I was thinking the same thing! How much lower do you think would be good?

$75 is an ok price but $50 to $60 is more in line with what they go for in good shape.

Tom Morel wrote: Look at whatever is attached to that pedestal.Hey Tom, this ad first appeared a couple months ago with the Vortalex pedestal for sale too. They had silly prices on the pair and must have finally sold the pedestal. The Jr. is down from the original price. It was a little too far for me plus I didn’t want to stray into George’s backyard. 😏

One thing you'll learn about this forum is to never post a fan you're interested in. I'm sure after you posted this the seller got quite a few offers to snipe the sale out from under you. With any luck you'll get it still. If not, no problem, they still show up, just maybe not at $75...

Yeah, not to be a dick, I realize you are young, but if you can't blow $75 on ANYTHING without advice, maybe collecting in any capacity is not a hobby you can afford. H ell, I spent that much on a two hour three person bar tab Friday.

$75 is a fair chunk of change to many people and even I who ended up paying very big bucks on some fans do not like to "blow" any amount of money ever.  Spend wisely and frugally and one can afford some nice things now and then, especially in later years when earning power increases.

I hear ya Steve, but $100 is not what it used to be. S hit, I spend half that having my yard mowed. And believe me, I am by far NOT WEALTHY. I think we got a bit off track, I'm just saying if you give $75 bucks for something, anything, that Joe Blow happened to score for $50, it's not time to jump off a bridge.

I guess that I am a "yesterday man" and value $75 similar to what it was many years ago.   My first cottage my sister and I rented in 1968 was $75/mo. rent.

I am a person of the now and cannot afford to spend buko bucks on any antique. I literally couldn't afford to throw $75 at a fan unless its a pre-1920 BB fan. At times I have paid more, like the Emerson 14646 I got for $125, or the all-brass GE I bought for $120. Other times, I've spent much less on much more desirable fans, like the tank I got for $50, or the 1900-01 DC GE I got for $35. Being in college, I can't afford to drop $600 on a pancake like it's nothing. Hell, that's half of my savings account. And to be honest, I enjoy the hunt sometimes more than the actual fan.

People would be surprised how many fans are out there that people still see as a hunk of junk. This only makes me feel better for keeping them from the junk yard, or from being turned into a cheap desk lamp.

For crying out loud Steve, 1968 was fifty years  ago, the year I was born. And seriously Alec, are there hoards of brass blade fans out there for seventy five bucks? Even at minimum wage thats a days pay. What do you want for nothing? Maybe I'm just flying off here, but I'll buy that fan and donate it to help out a youngster and further the cause.

Honestly, it wasn't that I wasn't prepared to spend $75, heck I contacted the seller last night. I'm still just quiet new to the hobby and wanted to make sure it was in good shape for the price. I'm not against spending money, I just don't like to blow it. I've been ripped off several times in online transactions and just wanted the input of seasoned collectors. Also, as a college student, $75 dollars isn't insignificant for me. Please note I wasn't trying to start a flame war.
Ps- Contact with the seller has been made.

That is not a brass blade fan; it's a somewhat common steel blade Emerson Jr., a nice fan but far removed from Emerson brass blade fans.

Sean,

$75 is a fair price. Like any antique you may find another cheaper but searching for another to save $10 isnt worth it. If complete and runs I would happily give $75 if it was in front of me and I already have a few

These are easy to rewire if you wish to get rid of old wiring
