In the process of replacing broken yoke on 15" Western Electric The screw has access from top, however, it is not moving ( picture with screwdriver ) Is there a good way to help that screw, or do I have to take the switch out and attack it from the bottom Thanks for any suggestions ![]() ![]() ![]()

I'd put some liquid wrench in the hole with the screw. Wait a day, then heat the outside with a torch. If the pin and the yoke are different metals (and they probably are), they will expand at different rates and the screw will loosen. Is that yoke pot metal? It looks to be cast iron.

Levi: what would be the best way to repair that break in the cast iron? Could that be spot welded then sanded?

If you have the broken off piece I would get in touch with Ed Bowers. He does a great job at welding cast iron.

Another option is to glue the fractured piece back on and send it to Cattail foundry to have it recast in pig iron. They will send it back to you rough cast for you to doll up minus a repair job. They are very reasonable.

Did the penetrating oil for one day and heat gun until yoke was too hot to touch and it did not budge. not sure how much penetrating the oil did since it was still pooled in the opening at screw head I assume next step is to take switch out and attack it from the bottom Any other suggestions still appreciated

Update Turns out that screw would never turn no matter what is done to it. All I had to do was remove that brass thumb screw (shown on pic) and yoke comes right off. The bolt is bent to fit housing and would never turn. Not sure there are many 15" Western Electrics out there but hopefully this saves somebody a lot of time if they have the same problem in the future. ![]() ![]()
