I’m pretty sure Steve would feed his cats from this beautiful “patina “ spot.

The whole fan was stripped and repainted.

I sanded betwixt every single wire. I’m no Kim Frank or Lane Shirey, But I definitely have an appreciation of what those guys do, as well as many others. I’m just a hack. But I’m having a good time learning!

Had to make a wooden motor adapter. Dinged up the corner tightening the belt. Can’t see it from the front. This fan will be at knee level in the window by the pool table and there are many other nicer fans around so she should blend in just fine.

This ol girl is running on 60 volts on the Variac. Still massive airflow. I tried to turn the Variac lower but the amps went up. I have two of these fans. The other one the metal case is damaged beyond repair. But I’m going to make a really nice dovetail joint wooden box and put the guts in it and make another fan out of it. I will post the results.  Your projects have inspired me David. I don’t have your skills but I’m gonna give it my best shot.

Richard,
With the Variac at 60 volts if you pull the  plug on the Variac  will the motor restart when plugged back in?
Around 90 volts  is about as low as I went on some of my fans and restart  decent..
In my area the power goes off 2 to 3 or more a month so if I have a fan running on the Variac and the power goes off and then come back on the fan will restart!

I have a whole pile of those fans that are for sale this weekend. also have a spare metal shell that would replace the one you have damaged. If you want to pursue the original look with fan #2 , let me know. Can probably fix you up. :D

Very nice Richard- they’re good fans. I have one in my garage window. Be careful- prop your doors open when you use it, or it’ll suck them shut. Be careful it doesn’t suck the drywall off of the walls, lol!
Just a tip, but to prep cages for paint like that with many cross wires, I use an angled air powered die grinder with a coarse wire wheel in it. Works quickly and thoroughly. It’ll knock all paint and rust down to bare metal, ready for a quick cleaning then primer. Sanding those is a pain.

Let’s be straight, I’m no Kim Frank, not even close, but thanks for the kind words!
