I’ve just been informed that our AFCA brother Duane Burright just suffered a huge loss. The Woolsey Fire burned down his lifelong home and continues to wreak havoc in Malibu and in other parts of the greater Los Angeles area. Fortunately, Duane and his mother are physically OK, but the impact of losing one’s home base can’t be underestimated.

One of my staff at the institution lived in Paradise and lost his home.  We have some on-grounds housing available to help him out while he recovers.
We staff a community facility that is in Oroville, about 5 to 10 miles south of the fire.  Yesterday it was moving east, but if it starts heading south we will evacuate the 39 residents to Folsom.
Annie and I are about 90 miles from the Camp fire that swept through Paradise.  I used to have a lot of family there.  We know a few who have evacuated.  At our place today the smoke is like a thick fog with the sun appearing like a faint red ball.  It is eerie.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Duane and his family. While an agonizing loss, the material possessions can be replaced. At least he and his mom are ok.

It’s a shame that we aren’t able to send all the rain we’ve been having this year on the east coast to you guys out west. You certainly could use it!

Be safe all you folks out west!
