I found this mid-1950s Emerson Pedestal fan and once I wired it up, it would not run.  Could this be a bad capacitor?  I'm not a fan of these later Emerson fans, but pedestals are hard to find.  Also, can you get new capacitors of that's the problem.  Much thanks, look forward to Fanfair.

It is probably the capacitor but you might have wired it wrong. I would start with the capacitor before messing with the wiring. I think these take a 1.5 mfd capacitor.

Thanks for the help.  Can you purchase new ones that work?  I do have a spare old one.  Thanks again! John W

New capacitors can be bought. It all depends on the type of capacitor in your fan. If a smaller pedestal say a 77648 or 77646, or if you have an industrial pedestal, that alone could determine the type of capacitor you need. Likely a motor run capacitor. Match the Mfd and voltage numbers accordingly.

Hi John. Just throwing these out there if you’re in the market for pedestals. They will all be going to Fan Fair. See you there. 👍
