I just got a Vornado Jr that runs great but the base is rusty. Is there a trick to taking one of these apart? I would like to repaint at least the base, if not the whole thing. I also need a guard, and I want to polish or paint the blade.

The spot at about 1 o'clock was just some glue that came off with a bit of work. Actually I could clean up the fan body and it would be decent, but the base has rust and rust I don't do.

Unscrew the ring that holds the switch in place. These little brass looking caps are snaps, I put a drop of penetrating oil under each one, wiped off the excess, and using tape wrapped needle nose pliers grabbed the side edges of each button/snap, carefully lifting each one from engagement. Be careful, these are not easy to replace....
