Dig the retract-a-cord reel.

Wow, I love that! Obviously quite a lot of time and money went into building it.

I don't think I have more than $100 in all of it... I expected a lot of ridicule when I started putting it together, it was just some silly vision that I had and I wanted to see it through...  people seem to like it, but don't want it when you offer it to them, for free,so they must not like it that much...  it takes a fan person to like something like this, The average Joe not so much

I was thinking about adding lights with lampshades ....kind a like a luminaire...  that  should put it over the top.. then the fan museum would surely want it then...  I could tell everybody I have a fan at the fan Museum.. this would give me bragging rights...

What about some industrial spotlights, maybe along the pedestal, or just under the fan?

Lights on a fan are always very useful; especially a tall fan like that. I have lights in my 48" Ilg box fan, which have been very useful for working on things.

I'm curious how the fan attaches to the base. I thought originally it was held on by the lower mounting holds but I see its attached to the vent tube.

I also thought about steam punking it... putting some big steam gauges and ornate brass valves on it to make it look like it's powered by steam...  it will also need some Victorian flair.. I found some antique wheels that supposedly came off of a hospital bed that looks like  some sort of sea creature with the wheel in their mouth.

I use a pipe tap on the existing hole, then I used 2 bolts to hold it in place...  very snug ...
