so, a few years back, i was like 6 and now i am 16, i stayed at a beach house, in the closet there was a vintage fan, this was the first vintage fan i ever messed with, i remember the metal grill had come unwelded in several spots, and the oscillator did not work, it had green blades and got pretty hot, so it had to be a metal back. i am attaching a picture of the one i think it was (found this picture online) do these get hot, have osculation problems and have grills that fall apart? ![]()

I am pretty sure this is the correct model. i believe it is a bersted fan, am i correct?. i looked on ebay under several different things and cannot find it. the reason i am now looking for one over 10 years later, is I went down to look at the old house that we rented several times and every time we stayed there i played with this fan, even when we stayed there the house was in bad shape, but after the hurricane that hit the island it is worse, the dock got blown away, the ceiling is 90 percent gone and there is a hole in the roof you can see right up through, it is very sad and i have a feeling the fan is gone forever. should have just taken it, i doubt the slumlord who likely owns it would miss it. anyway i am looking for one like this, dont care if it is in great shape or not. I am in north carolina, if anybody has one they would be willing to part with or know where i may find one please let me know, i may also try to get in touch with the owner of the house and see if i may be able to rescue the original (that is if it is even still there, which i have my doubts about seeing that it was in poor shape 10 years ago) .

a week after staying there and playing with this fan made me decide i wanted a vintage fan of my own, so my mother took me to a flea market and we found it, a Zero 1250R, my first ever vintage fan. now i have over 30 fans including brass bladers and my emerson that belonged to birdseye, but if i could only keep one that would have to be my 1250R even though it itself is in semi poor shape and is pretty beat up, but still runs like a dream. i would not sell the fan for 100,000$ it stays by my bed instead of in my shop and will always be preserved, but not restored. i want to keep it just like it was when i got it when i was like 5. anyway sorry for getting off on a tangent i am looking for a green sears it is a 12 inch i believe.

Hi Marryann, I love your story! Thank for sharing it with us. I see these fans pop up on Ebay quite often and think there is one on there right now. Look up "vintage electric fan" and scroll and see what's on there. Your fan is an Edison/Toastmaster made fan and yes, they do get hot when running, and yes they had poor oscillators. I hope you find your fan. There's nothing like a childhood memory. Chris

thanks, i will continue looking. this is something i have not thought about in years, but we were on the island staying about a mile away from the house (which was in poor shape when we stayed there) to see what had happened to it and it had holes in the roof, missing windows, and the dock was in the water.

that fan is a Sears Logo, around 1974, with the "Atomic" sort of a symbol in the center. They were made by Eskimo/Bersted/Manning Bowman. I had the 12" blue blade version myself
